In memory of Kasuku

This past week, we have lost a member of the Mac Shop community and a dear friend. Kasuku, the african grey parrot and trusted sidekick of Peter B. Kaplan, has been part of the Mac Shop community from the very beginning of opening our storefront. Always spritely and conversational with every visit, he always brought smiles to the faces of friends and strangers alike.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Peter B. Kaplan and his family during this very sad time.

Kasuku, you will be missed.

The Mac Shop will be closed September 29th thru October 2nd for some R&R, we will be back in the shop on Monday October 3rd at 3. Please feel free to email us or call and we will get back to you on Monday.
Sorry for any inconvenience.

Apple Is planning a new campus

Infinite loop may soon no longer be the main campus for Mac Maker, Apple Inc.

Steve Jobs personally went in front of the Cupertino city council to announce Apple’s plans to build a new campus to house their going employee population. The new campus is about 100 acres and will have just one main, four story, circular building to house 12,000 employees. The plans call for most parking to be underground and 80% of the land to be land scape.

You can watch the complete presentation below.

With the announcement of Apple’s new iCloud service, the current service known as MobileMe ,or dot Mac before that, will be started to be fazed out. Apple’s new and upcoming service will be free, at least for a while.

Apple posted the followin on their site today:

Effective June 6, 2011, if you had an active MobileMe account, your service has been automatically extended through June 30, 2012, at no additional charge. After this, the MobileMe service will no longer be available…

…Apple has announced a new service called iCloud which will be available this fall and free for iOS 5 and OS X Lion users. When you sign up for iCloud, you’ll be able to keep your or email address and move your MobileMe mail, contacts, calendars, and bookmarks to the new service.

The new iCloud service looks incredible from what we have seen today and we look forward to seeing in action.

New Mac OS coming in July.

Apple Inc. announced today that the next major operating system revision will available for download, from the Mac App Store sometime in July. Mac OS 10.7 Lion will offer over 250 new features including New Multi-Touch gestures, Full-Screen Apps, Launchpad, and an updated Mail.

For those of you holding out.

Finally, apple will start selling the LONG awaited white iPhone 4 as of tomorrow. This might be a tactic to keep sales strong right before they traditionally revamp the line, or it might be an indication that the rumors are true and the iPhone (fifth generation) will not be updated until much later in the year.

With So much focus on the new iPad2, many folks are missing the release of a new developer release of Apple’s up coming OS, due out “this summer”.

iPad GaragebandGarageBand turns your iPad into a collection of Touch Instruments and a full-featured recording studio – so you can make music anywhere you go. Use Multi-Touch gestures to play pianos, organs, guitars, drums, and basses on your iPad. They sound and play like their counterparts, but let you do things you could never do on a real instrument. Enjoy a full range of Smart Instruments that make you sound like a pro – even if you’ve never played a note before. Plug an electric guitar into your iPad and play through classic amps and stompbox effects. Use the built-in microphone or a guitar to record, or capture any performance. Then mix up to eight tracks to create a song you can share.
